White River Health (WRHS) and the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) are proud to host a Suicide Prevention and Awareness event. The event will be held on April 14th from 6AM to 8PM in the UACCB Independence Hall, Room 103. Maggie Beshears, LPC, and Lindsey Bowers, MRC, will be presenting.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the US. Over 45,000 Americans died due to suicide in 2020 and there was over 1.2 Million attempted suicides. It is vital that family and friends are able to recognize suicidal tendencies in their loved ones in order to prevent an accident.
The presentation will help participants recognize the signs and symptoms associated with depression and anxiety, suicide myths, and recognizing the warning signs and risk factors related to those individuals who are facing mental health challenges leading to suicidal thinking and behaviors. The goal of the event is to help participants become better equipped in helping a family member or friend who may experience suicidal thoughts by discussing skills on how to appropriately and effectively approach a family member or friend who is faced with this challenge.
Pre-registration for the event is required. For additional information, call (501) 944-1785.
