Congratulations!

Having a child is a wonderful event, and we feel so privileged that you have chosen to share your experience with us!

We know it is an exciting time, but we also understand that making the transition is not always easy. We want you and your family to feel comfort in knowing that your time with us doesn't just begin once you go into labor, and it doesn't end once you walk out the doors to start your life with your new bundle of joy! The White River Medical Center Maternity Department hosts programs that focus on equipping families with the knowledge to increase confidence while caring for a newborn.

Our staff are skillfully trained to help you and your entire family make the transition into caring for a new baby a smooth one. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us should you have any questions involving the care of you or your baby.

Principles of Family Centered Maternity Care

Family centered care is the delivery of safe quality healthcare while recognizing and focusing on the physical, emotional and social needs of the mother, baby and the family.  The emphasis is on caring for the family unit as a whole while maintaining physical safety. Mother/Baby nursing means that the same nurse will care for you and your baby. Healthy babies remain in the room with their mothers.

Visiting

  • For our patient's safety and security, the Maternity and Women's Health Units are locked units. To enter the Department(s), all visitors must be announced to the Maternity staff and allowed access.
  • According to the mother's needs, the needs of the attending medical staff, and/or the mother's condition, the number of visitors may be limited during labor and delivery.
  • As a safety precaution, all visitors will be directed to wait in the waiting room. Loitering or waiting in the hallways will not be allowed, as from time to time we do encounter situations where equipment or beds may be rushed in the hallways.
  • To avoid the spread of germs, all visitors are asked to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. Visitors who are ill should not visit - especially, anyone with a cough or fever.

Sweet Dreams

Rest is essential after giving birth. Each day the WRMC Maternity Unit has a quiet time between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. During this time we discourage visitors outside father and siblings to encourage rest and mother-baby bonding.

The Maternity Suite

Our Maternity Center has ten spacious rooms created with the comfort of you, your baby, and your family in mind. Every room is equipped with a refrigerator, shower/Jacuzzi tub, hair dryer, sofa bed, television, and DVD player. Free WiFi is also available.

Each room contains all the medical equipment needed for you and your baby to remain in the same room throughout your birth experience. During labor you and your baby will be monitored by trained labor and delivery nurses using a centralized fetal monitoring system.

The Maternity Center also includes an evaluation room used for women that may be experiencing pregnancy related conditions to determine if hospitalization is needed.

Your Care Team

Our team of physicians, nurses and support staff are well qualified to care for you and your baby. The Maternity Staff include experienced labor and delivery nurses with certifications in Fetal Monitoring, Obstetrical Nursing Care, and Lactation (Breastfeeding) Consultation. Additionally, anesthesia services are available 24 hours a day for pain control.

At Home With Your Baby

Our care doesn't end when you leave the hospital. If you have questions about caring for your baby, breastfeeding, or your postpardum recovery, please reach out to us or to your OB/GYN or Pediatrician. In the case of a medical emergency, call 911
